With a mission of empowering women and children in order to break out of the spiral of abject poverty through education and vocational training.

Iris Wilkinson
Founder & President NJS

Welcome to Nav Jeevan Sanstha School. As an institution we are committed to providing nourishment, shelter, medical care, security, education, and vocational training to underprivileged children living in the slums of Central India. Our goal is to empower those living in dire situations by providing them with an environment and the necessary tools to make a brighter future for themselves, their family, and their community. We started with only 10 children 15 years ago.  Today we have 332 students enrolled, 250 of whom are living in our hostel. We are growing! Unfortunately, as we expand, our resources are not keeping up. With your help, however, we hope to never again have to turn away another needy child because we don’t have the means to help them.
Thank you for your interest and support!

STORIES OF NAVJEEVAN

When 2 year old Sunil – a very intelligent boy – was losing his ability to speak. He had a very rare malformation of his voice box. This could only be corrected by surgery. In the entire country, there are only a handful of doctors that can perform the operation, which cost hundreds of thousands of rupees.

Sunil’s father is an alcoholic ragpicker and therefore has little to no money to support his family, let alone pay for such an operation. It was only because of NJS that Sunil was able to get this rare surgery and is today his confident self rather than the withdrawn, insecure little boy he was becoming.
